Unleash

Engagement  1997–2000 (~3 years) Sales operator Mike Reardon

Engaged to grow a CRM services start-up in Toronto at the moment CRM as a category was just forming, when enterprise sales motion for it had not yet been defined for the market and most buyers were still describing the category as “contact management.”

Built a two-tier sales motion across the emerging CRM portfolio. Sold low-level contact management products at transactional volume to SMB buyers while landing enterprise CRM and ERP software-and-services contracts at high margin. Lexmark Canada anchored the enterprise tier on Saleslogix, a partnership that placed Unleash as a finalist in the Microsoft Mobile awards.

Outcome Defined customer and revenue motion across two tiers, reaching $1M+ in pipeline and closed revenue. Finalist position in the Microsoft Mobile awards through the Saleslogix · Lexmark Canada partnership.

Lesson That Travels

“The two-tier model, transactional at the low end and enterprise at the high end, works across categories and decades. The discipline at Unleash was the same discipline Prexecom had taught five years earlier, applied to a category that was still emerging.”

Why This Matters to You

Reaffirming the need for an operating discipline at the formation of a new category, even when the business around you does not yet have one, is what separates the operator’s instinct from the activity. The discipline existed before bEffective existed to brand it.
