Engagement  Sep 2025 – Mar 2026 (~7 months) Operator Mike Reardon

Engaged to design the go-to-market architecture for a new SaaS platform built for complex service delivery. Started with three candidate sectors, First Nations, Municipalities and Non-Profit, each one apparently winnable on its face.

Mapped each sector against sales-cycle length, decision authority, budget mechanism, and product readiness. Findings: First Nations and Municipalities had strong product fit but Council-gated multi-year procurement; Non-Profit had fragmented authority and no margin upside. Specialty Trades emerged as the best fit: clear decision authority, fast sales cycle, defined ROI. Ran a 90-day pilot model with hard entry criteria and KPIs.

Outcome Redirected commercial focus from three diffuse sectors to one beachhead with a repeatable sales motion and a defined product roadmap. Ideal customer qualified at above 30% close potential, with a per-deal value of $100K.

Lesson That Travels

“Three diffuse sectors becomes one beachhead through structured comparison. Pilot data beats opinion, and cold outreach is not the primary channel for a prime customer. Thought leadership and a lighthouse client open the door first.”

Why This Matters to You

Action for the sake of action wastes the runway. The right move at a SaaS start-up is to set strategy, test it against real entry data, and adapt, not chase every sector that will return a call.
